The Winter of Red Snow The Revolutionary War Diary of Abigail Jane Stewart Valley Forge Pennsylvania 1777 Dear America Kristiana Gregory 9780590226530 Books
The book put a human face on the revolutionary war making for an understanding of the hardships of the "American" soldiers and George Washington wintering in Valley Forge and of the families whose homes were at Valley Forge. Abigail's family was Quaker which meant they would normally have nothing to do with war and warriors but that was not possible with 12,000 soldiers almost on their front lawn, starving soldiers without shoes (hence the name "red snow" since the snow was covered with the blood shed by the torn bare feet of the soldiers) or adequate clothing to endure the harsh Pennsylvania winter. Times were hard for the family too with the cold affecting them, with part of their supplies requisitioned by the army, and Abigail's mother having just given birth to her 9th child, the 6th boy when each of the previous 5 boys didn't survive their 1st winter. Well written with good detail and realism.Tags : The Winter of Red Snow: The Revolutionary War Diary of Abigail Jane Stewart, Valley Forge, Pennsylvania, 1777 (Dear America) [Kristiana Gregory] on Amazon.com. *FREE* shipping on qualifying offers. Love it, great book
Love this book
My daughter loves the Dear America Series...
Ordered two of the dear America series and grandchildres are in love with the searies and have been reading them in school. To my surprise our GRANDSON also likes the series and here I thought for only girls. What does Grandma know anyway but kids love them and want to order more. Was a qick and fun way to provide birthday gifts to the twins. Great for them to read. Have to get busy and get the kids more. Granddaughter was so thrilled as she asked for the Winter of Red Snow and also got her another othat she was already into reading. Surprise for me
My daughter read this book. She enjoyed it immensely. I liked the way that she asked me questions about the American Revolution.
My granddaughter has a reading disability, so she was listening to this book on audio to fulfill a class assignment. I thought I would read it so we could discuss it together. After she finished listening to the audio, she was given an extensive assignment project that I was able to help her on by asking questions that would give her ideas on how to complete it. The book gives a good description of how people went about their lives in the Valley Forge area of Pennsylvania even though a war was being fought around them.
