I bought this book for my sons Kindergarten Christmas book exchange party. I read the reviews and thought it would be a cute unique holiday book. While it is unique, the story just wasn't good. I think the thing that bothered me is that they took the magic away from Santa and made him out to be this completely ordinary person who couldn't hold a job. My 5 year old was not at all interested after the first couple of pages. I also thought the pictures left something to be desired. I was really disappointed.Tags : How Santa Got His Job [Stephen Krensky, S.D. Another wonderful story by this amazing author. Read all her books. Creative and fun for all ages too. Pull it out at Christmas and read it to everyone. You will find even the adults listening.
Read this to my third grade class today, and they absolutely loved it. Such a fun way to explain how Santa got the ideas to do what he does. The kids kept saying "oh, so that's why..." as I read. The pictures are great and the text is well written. I would recommend this book highly!
Wonderful book for explaining the many questions that children have about Santa. It gives some very insightful and clever explanations for everything that Santa does. I love the details of the writing as well as the illustrations. My students really loved this book. We were able to complete some cute writing assignments from this fun book.
Bought it for my nephews for Christmas. Super cute book about Santa growing up, going through different jobs, and finally becoming Santa. My 5 year old nephew understood how all the jobs helped him, but the 3 year old couldn't make the connection. We've read it several times in the last few weeks!
My first grader loved this story. I read it early in December and we used the story for a social studies lesson to fit in with jobs within our community. Instead of taking Santa's job, we applied to be North Pole elves. We filled out job applications, got fingerprinted and sent them off to "ELF CENTRAL" and waited to see if we got jobs. The day before Winter Break, a FED EX envelope arrived from the North Pole with acceptance letters along with new elf names for each applicant. The story was a fun springboard for a lot of Christmas activities.
Purchased this book for a 24 day countdown to Christmas. I wrap up 24 books and put them in a open box. Then Dec. 1st I let one of my grandchildren open a book then I read it to them. This way they learn to count, listen, take turns and wait. It is fun to do.
I have mixed feelings because the illustrations are cute and I like the idea of the other jobs teaching him his skills. I also like in the beginning it uses words like let go or left that job but saying “fired” with Santa is just sad. Not that there’s something wrong but I have never been fired myself but I have left many jobs when I was younger that weren’t for me. Not a bad book just not sure about being fired a few times.
